Today we will take you to the end of the world…Argentine style!

Oggi ti porteremo alla fine del mondo…versione Argentina!

Both Argentina and Chile claim to be the end of the world.

After a history filled with countries aiming to be at the “centre of the world”, I guess now we are debating about which one is at the “end” of it. We are of course ignoring for the moment that the world resembles more a sphere than a pyramid/cone, so that the inherent concept of the “end of it” is nonsense.

So how do you define which one is the real end of the world? Well, Argentina claims to have the most southern city (Ushuaia) and Chile the most southern town (Puerto Williams).

Just to put things in context, we are talking about latitude of c.55° south, in line with that of Northern Germany/Denmark for the northern emisphere. Norway, Sweden, Iceland etc are much closer to the pole. But hey, doesn’t “end of the world” sound cool…

Sia l’Argentina che il Cile affermano di essere alla fine del mondo.

Dopo una storia caratterizzata da popoli che hanno lottato per diventare il “centro del mondo”, ora ci riduciamo a discutere su quale sia alla “fine” di esso. Naturalmente, ignoriamo per il momento che il mondo assomigli più a una sfera che a una piramide / cono, e che quindi il concetto intrinseco della “fine di esso” sia un puro costrutto.

Quindi, come definire qual è la vera fine del mondo? L’Argentina sostiene di avere la città più meridionale (Ushuaia) e il Cile l’insediamento più meridionale (Puerto Williams).

Giusto per contestualizzare, stiamo parlando di una latitudine di c.55 ° sud, in linea con la latitudine della Germania settentrionale / Danimarca per l’emisfero settentrionale. Norvegia, Svezia, Islanda ecc sono molto più vicine al polo. Ma questo poco importa se puoi ambire ad essere il migliore in qualcosa…

Ahimè questa è davvero la fine del mondo per il granchio qua sotto:

It is called king crab (centolla, locally) and it serves as starter, main, dessert (if you are really up for it) and as sauce for over the fish.

We ate one with the two of us (sorry no picture, was too hungry to eat when it was served!). It tastes great, it is super soft and slightly sweet, but it is quite a lot of work to get the meat out!

Si chiama king crab (centolla in spagnolo) e serve come antipasto, piatto principale, dolce (se proprio insistete) e come salsa per il pesce.

Ne abbiamo mangiato uno in due (scusate l’assenza di foto, eravamo troppo affamati quando ci è stato servito!). Ha un ottimo sapore, è super morbido e leggermente dolce, ma richiede un bel po’ di lavoro per tirare fuori dal carne!

The glacier Martial, which was impressive… 10000 years ago, now it is very small unfortunately. The views on the beagle channel are magnificent though!
