Say you are a town, however unlikely that might be. You have a beautiful (active!) Vulcano on your doorstep as well as a wonderful lake right in front of you. Nature is abundant and untouched.

You seem like a perfect tourist destination. How to attract tourists if not with a catchy slogan?? See for yourself … We are no marketing experts, but a rebranding wouldn’t hurt.

Diciamo che sei una città, per quanto improbabile possa essere. Hai un bellissimo vulcano (attivo!) a due passi e un meraviglioso lago proprio di fronte a te. La natura è abbondante e intatta.

Sembri una destinazione turistica perfetta. Come attirare i turisti se non con uno slogan accattivante ?? Guarda un po’ cosa si sono inventati… Non siamo esperti di marketing, ma un rebranding non guasterebbe.

Pucon is famous for the vulcano Villarrica (see picture above) which is still active and erupted only three years ago (with no major consequences fortunately)

Pucon has two tourist seasons:

1. summer when it is hot and people go to the beach (with black vulcanic sand) and do many watersports (rafting, sailing, kayaking, etc)
2. winter season in which there is a lot of snow and the Villarrica vulcano with its 3 km height will give plenty of slopes to ski down from

Pucon ha due stagioni turistiche:

1. Estate, perfetta per andare in spiaggia (con sabbia nera vulcanica) e praticare sport acquatici (rafting, vela, kayak, ecc.)
2. Stagione invernale in cui c’è molta neve e il vulcano Villarrica con i suoi 3 km di altezza offre molte piste su cui sciare

In summer it is also possible to hike up the vulcano to take a peek inside the active core of the Vulcano 🌋

Needless to say we couldn’t resist.

Obviously it is not an easy climb (you go through snow, steep ascents etc.) So we booked a guided tour with Summit Chile.

They provided all the gear (cloth, ice pick, crampons, helmet and even a gasmask).

In estate è anche possibile fare escursioni sul vulcano per dare un’occhiata all’interno del nucleo attivo del Vulcano 🌋

Inutile dire che non abbiamo potuto resistere.

Ovviamente non è una salita facile (si attraversa la neve, salite ripide ecc.) quindi abbiamo prenotato un tour guidato con Summit Chile.
Hanno fornito tutto l’equipaggiamento (stoffa, piccozza, ramponi, casco e persino una maschera antigas).

The ascent starts at about a 1400 meters and hence you have to walk up 1400 meters your self. Luckily the descent back to 1400 meters is a lot easier: you slide back on your butt!

La salita a piedi inizia a circa 1400 metri di altezza e quindi ci sono altri 1400 metri da coprire. Fortunatamente la discesa di 1400 metri è molto più semplice: te la fai scivolando sul sedere!

After a number of stops (it takes 4 hrs to climb up) the top is reached: with a view that could come straight from a mountaineering catalog:

Dopo un certo numero di fermate (ci vogliono 4 ore per salire) si raggiunge la cima, con una vista che potrebbe essere tratta da un catalogo di alpinismo:

Inside the vulcano some sulphur is produced, which can be quite irritating for the nose and eyes hence the gasmask:

All in it was a great walk, we had a great group (which really helps as you walk like ants behind each other so the slowest one is determining the pace)

E’ stata una bella passeggiata, abbiamo avuto un bel gruppo (che aiuta molto quando cammini l’uno dietro l’altro, poiché il più lento determina il ritmo)
